LEXINGTON CENTER TO EMPLOY WALK THROUGH METAL DETECTORS AT MOST RUPP ARENA EVENTS
(April 11, 2016) – Lexington Center announced today that starting on April 16th, with the Christian rock concert OUTCRY, Lexington Center will begin utilizing walk through metal detectors at most events at Rupp Arena.
“As the world is constantly changing with regard to pubic events becoming higher profile targets, we are striving to provide a safe environment for all of our events,” said Carl Hall, Director of Arena Management. “If we can effectively strengthen the level of security at an event, the risk of becoming a target is significantly reduced,” he continued.
Walk through metal detectors are now required by the NHL and NBA, as well as Live Nation Entertainment, a major promoter of concerts which regularly hosts at Rupp Arena. These type of units are currently being used at other arenas in the region such as the YUM! Center in Louisville and Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
Upon arrival, patrons will be requested to remove items like cell phones and keys that may set off the alarm, thus requiring further inspection. Although these units are more effective and faster than handheld metal detectors, patrons should still plan to arrive early to events in order to avoid standing in long lines.
A special “Express Lane” will be set up for patrons entering the arena without purses, bags or backpacks.
